We get a tough looking group for Euro 2012 although you would have to hope as World Cup winners we could breeze through it !

In an another frustrating but ultimately rewarding game, we take a great step forward to the 2010 World Cup Finals. after scoring a great early goal, we ceded the game to Belarus and they deservedly equalised as we were all over the place. It really did look like we were going to blow it. Fair play to Capello, he some how turned it around at half time and we put in a powerful second half performance. Rooney and Heskey were particularly excellent again.

I just wish we’d play and little more football and not give the ball away so much. Better sides will take advantage of this shortcoming. Still four wins out of four can’t be bad.

In a performance that must rank with the 5-1 defeat of Germany and the 4-1 defeat of Holland, England thrashed the gloating Croats firstly by squeezing the life out of them, then by playing football in a style we all hope England would play in all the time. Wayne Rooney was brilliant and Theo Walcott scored an unbelievable hat-trick to put the Croats in their place.

The first half was a bit frustrating as we could’ve used the ball a bit better although in truth Croatia didn’t really get a sniff due to how well organised England were. Second half we murdered them (even before they had a man sent off) and we scored some excellent goals. A bit of footballing joy at last !

Once again England frustrate us fans with a performance of unrelenting dullness. Andorra might have had 11 men behind the ball but that shouldn’t have meant that we laboured as much as we did. Joe Cole’s second goal showed how to get in behind them: a little one-two on the edge of the box and we were in. We got the result: a little bit of style would not have gone a miss.

We all felt this

It is a mystery, wrapped in an enigma why we can’t produce a decent national side. We have the players, the game is awash with money, we have top class coaches and managers (both foreign and British) yet we still struggle at international level. Do the foreign players at the Premier League sides make our players look good so when they play with each other in the national side, their shortcomings are exposed ?

I thought Capello was as good a choice as anyone for the job. He doesn’t seem to be sticking to his footballing principals. He normally plays with two holding midfield players, thus protecting the back four and allowing the more creative players to get forward without fear of being caught on the counter attack. This doesn’t always lead to great football: it produces winning teams though.

These tactics cost him his job at Real Madrid even after winning La Liga. At this stage we need a winning side and he should make some hard decisions, drop Gerrard (who plays like a schoolboy), bring some younger blood in and somehow fashion us a winning team. Furbo is what we need (look it up)
