The press have been slagging Beckham off again and questioning whether he should be England captain and so on. Of course he shouldn’t do what he did but it never merited a red card. The ref obviously sent him off in a fit of temper rather than consider Beckham’s offence. By all accounts, in Spain, this behaviour is considered just part and parcel of the game and they can’t see what the fuss is about.
