We actually played well again tonight with plenty of passion and the team looking well balanced. It can’t be avoided but the changes were forced on McClaren and it sometimes happens like that (Bobby Robson Mexico 1986 springs to mind Steve Hodge Peter Reid etc.) So we’ll have to see if he tinkers with the side because on this performance all the players are worth their place (except perhaps Gerrard who was ordinary again tonight).

I’m often critical of England but I can’t fault this performance. Heskey and Barry were particularly impressive and I never thought I’d say that about Heskey. I also had a bet with Betfair that the first goal would be within twenty minutes so that was handy.
Me and Shah both had a bet today and came up trumps at Salisbury (Shah) and Redcar (The lucky punter)
