I played golf yesterday in our swindle and did play very well off of 7 handicap. I had 36 points after sixteen holes and was level par for the previous thirteen holes. The group behind caught up with us just after I’d smashed another drive down the centre of the fairway. They asked how we were all getting on and instead of being modest as I usually am and just saying I was doing OK, I could not wait to blurt out my score and show off.
I then went one point then no score for the last two holes. I broke the golden rule of not believing your own legend and paid the price. Still won the money though.
BBC SPORT | Golf | Holmes leads from Rose in USPGA
Although it’s the fourth major, I just can’t get excited about the USPGA Championship. It’s being held on a classic course, the field is very strong even without Tiger and Rose is giving it an English twist but it’s just not exciting. Perhaps it’s me.
When you start to believe your own legend and think you’ve cracked golf, the golfing gods have a habit of bringing you down to earth. I played today and played ok but in truth I was hanging on to my score.
I’ve played well this season and have started to think that maybe I’m some way towards becoming a decent player at last. The last few games have seen me struggling and getting a bit frustrated and my handicap has slipped back to 11. It doesn’t follow in this game that just because you have a good run, you go on to bigger and better things. The game is always a struggle.
At least I’m still top of the Grand Prix in the SOS swindle and it would mean a lot to me to win it this year. Fingers and everything else crossed !
BBC SPORT | Golf | Brilliant Harrington retains Open
You have to hand it to Harrington. He played absolutely brilliantly over the last few holes to win the Open by four shots. Poulter gave it his best shot, although it wasn’t enough. Three putting 17 didn’t help his cause.
I wish I could play that well with a bad wrist !

It was a bit like all our yesterdays at The Open today as The Great White Shark spent most of the day at the top of the leader board. What with David Duval back in the running and playing well, we could have a real shock over the weekend. Still reckon Tiger would’ve pissed it if he’d been here.
My pick Jimenez had a ‘mare and my other hunch Garcia needs to go well tomorrow to get any where near winning. Should be interesting to say the least.

It’s been said on plenty of occasions , that the draw is vital if the weather is bad. Everyone toiled in the morning but there were some decent scores in the afternoon. My two picks, Garcia and Jimenez ( I got 28-1 for Jimenez) are there or there abouts. Tomorrow should be interesting when the draw changes it all around. It’s still a wide open Championship.
